How does NILs work?
The No Interest Loans (NILs) program is a financial assistance program that provides loans of up to $2,000 to people who are experiencing financial hardship. The loans are interest-free and there are no hidden fees.
Our No Interest Loans program is made possible thanks to our partners, South East Community Links (SECL) and Good Shepherd.
Am I eligible?

You hold a temporary visa or student visa

You earn less than $70,000 annual income (before tax) as a single person or $100,000 annual income (before tax) if you have a partner or children

You can show you can afford to repay the loan
How can I apply?
To apply for the NILs program, you will need to:

A Cockatoo NILS Officer will get in touch with you within 24–48 hours to have a friendly conversation about your situation and guide you through the next steps.

If your application is approved, you can submit an invoice for the essential goods or services you need (such as study-related items or important living essentials). NILS will pay the supplier directly, helping you access what you need without financial pressure. Loans cannot be used for cash, bills, or existing debts.
